Faith-Based Film ‘Father Stu’ Returning to Theaters with a New PG-13 Version

Actor Mark Wahlberg’s passion project Father Stu continues to garner more discussion than the average faith-based film. The inspiring true story of Stuart Long—a boxer-turned-priest—performed modestly at the box office before finding greater success on Netflix.

The movie was controversial for its R rating and inclusion of heavy profanity. While the raw, unfiltered material added a degree of authenticity and realism not always present in faith-based films, it also limited its potential for reaching a family audience. Now, with the hope of allowing a broader audience to experience the story, a PG-13 version of the film titled Father Stu: Reborn is set to debut in theaters December 9, 2022.
