House of David —Episode 4: “The Song of Moses” (Recap and Review)

Amazon Prime’s House of David, based on the life of King David, got off to a promising start last week. You can read our in-depth review of the first three episodes here. This week, the drama intensifies with a budding romance, a scandal within King Saul’s court, and the highly anticipated meeting of two pivotal characters.

Watch the video below for a recap of episode four, including analysis of what the show does well, some lingering questions about the tone and themes, and an evaluation of how faithful the episode’s events are to the biblical source material.

I think Episode 4 went off-track with the Ishvi sub-plot:

    1) Ishvi having relations with an unmarried daughter of Dan is NOT Adultery. Adultery is with married women.
    2) The penalty for this is in Exodus 22:16-17
“If a man seduces a virgin who is not betrothed and lies with her, he shall give the bride-price for her and make her his wife. If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money equal to the bride-price for virgins.
    3) Cities of refuge (Numbers 35) are for people who commit man-slaughter, not adultery.

I am surprised the show does not have a rabbi as a consultant about Biblical law.
