“The Chosen” Star Jonathan Roumie Guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon
Amazon Prime may be the studio with the hit new Bible adaptation about the life of King David, but there is arguably no more miraculous David v. Goliath story unfolding in Hollywood than the unprecedented success of the faith-based series The Chosen. Beginning in 2019 as a crowd-funded series from Dallas Jenkins, the gospel adaptation has grown exponentially, smashed several records, and become one of the biggest, most influential shows in the TV world, faith based or otherwise.
The latest indication of the show’s growing cultural footprint occurred this week. To promote the show’s upcoming fifth season, actor Jonathan Roumie (who portrays Jesus in the show) made an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. During the guest spot, Roumie performed several impressive vocal impersonations, discussed his meeting with Pope Francis, and reminisced about the early days of The Chosen. You can watch the full interview below.
Host Jimmy Fallon doesn’t steer the conversation toward any deep religious topics, but Roumie’s appearance on the popular talk show further validates the faith-based film industry. Far from the early days as a sideshow in the entertainment world, series like The Chosen and House of David have garnered massive audiences and widespread critical acclaim. Hollywood can’t help but take notice.
The first two episodes of The Chosen’s eagerly anticipated fifth season will debut in theaters on March 28th. As always, the episodes will be made available for free streaming at a later date.
