Hulkamania in Heaven: Hulk Hogan Professes Faith in Jesus and Is Baptized
Heaven is going to be a fascinating place filled with a remarkable collection of people. Coming shortly on the heels of famed tattoo artist and reality star Kat von D’s viral baptism video, iconic wrestler Hulk Hogan has now taken the baptismal plunge.
In a stunning Instagram post, the 70-year-old wrestling legend revealed that he and his wife, Sky Daily Hogan, were baptized at Indian Rocks Baptist Church in Largo, Florida. The baptism videos were accompanied by the declaration, “Total surrender and dedication to Jesus is the greatest day of my life. No worries, no hate, no judgment… only love!”
As expected, the Instagram post has already drawn a wide range of responses. Many commenters have expressed joy at Hogan’s significant act of faith. Others have bemoaned the act, accusing Hogan of joining “a cult” and comparing believing in “a magical deity in the sky” to believing “WWE is real wrestling.”
Hulk Hogan’s baptism is a significant milestone, but it is not the beginning of his faith journey. He has expressed his faith in God for years, pointing back to a salvation experience he had as a 14-year-old. Over the years, however, he became entangled in several controversies and much like his persona inside the wrestling ring, his public real-life reputation has fluctuated between beloved hero and notorious “heel.” Thankfully, it appears that he has found peace in his Christian faith.
At times, the “rich and famous” can be treated almost as villains by Christians who deplore their lavish, unrepentant lifestyles. Hulk Hogan’s public profession of faith is another important reminder that God’s saving grace is not bound by stereotypes or human assumptions. When Christians get to heaven, they can look forward to a gruff-voiced welcome of, “Hallelujah, brother!”
